Abstract
<PICT:0411952/IV/1> <PICT:0411952/IV/2> In a continuous process for the production and treatment of artificial threads, each individual thread is guided in a helical path on one or several continuously surfaced rotating rollers and is subjected thereon to treatment with liquids. It is then dried while passing in a plurality of windings round rotating heated drying cylinders and is finally wound on a winding or twisting spool. The wet treatment may be carried out with stretching or shrinking of the thread; for this purpose the rollers may be constructed conically and mounted horizontally and the liquid may be sprayed on the thread and caused to travel in counter-current to the thread. The surfaces of the rollers may be perforated, grooved, or corrugated, and the rollers may be overhung from bearings at one side only. Drying may be carried out in stages between which the thread is remoistened. As shown in Fig. 1, a thread 1 issuing from a stretch-spinning apparatus 2 is led through a channel 3 and treated with acid. It then passes in a helical path round a rotating roller 5, the different windings being kept apart by hooks 12. The roller 5 dips into a vessel 8 supplied with water which travels in counter-current to the direction of progression of the thread. The thread is then passed in a helical path round a heated drying roll 13, the temperature of the roll being maintained by means of steam, gas flames, or circulating hot oil. The thread is finally wound on a spool 18. As shown in Fig. 2, the thread 1 is passed in helical manner round a conical roll 5 and sprayed with water, desulphurizing liquid, or other treatment liquid. The decreasing diameter of the roll in the direction of travel of the thread compensates for the shrinkage which occurs. If desired the roll may be oppositely disposed in order that the thread may be stretched during the treatment. The thread passes round part of a heated drying cylinder 13 in helical fashion and after preliminary drying is remoistened by means of a wet roll 20. It then passes in helical fashion round the larger surface 13<1> of the drying cylinder and is dried in stretched condition. It is finally twisted and wound. The wet roll 20 may moisten the thread with water, size, soap solution, or softening agents. If desired, the treatment rollers may be supported vertically and the treatment liquid may be supplied tangentially. Specification 394,217 is referred to.
