Abstract

<PICT:0341009/IV/1> <PICT:0341009/IV/2> The threads from a group or groups of spinnerets are united into a ribbon of parallel strands which ribbon, after coagulation and fixing, is drawn through washing, desulphurizing, bleaching &c. baths and dried. As shown, applied to viscose, groups of threads spun in the coagulating bath 1 are passed over the collecting roller 2 and fork 4 and are directed by a roller 5 to drawing rollers 6 from which the ribbon 10 passes to a fixing-bath 11 and to washing, desulphurizing and bleaching baths 12, 13, 14. The ribbon is passed around porcelain rollers 9 in each bath as shown in Fig. 2, the rollers being preferably grooved to guide the ribbon. The fixing-bath comprises a dilute acid spray 8, Fig. 1. Squeeze rollers 17 are arranged at the entrance to each bath to drain the material. The ribbon issuing from the bath 14 is dried by passage around heated drying-rollers 18 associated with a hot air distributer 19. Each of the vats 12-14 is adapted to be lowered through bevel &c. gear to give access to the rollers 9. The rollers 9 may be driven at different speeds so as to obtain the desired denier for the strands; or, in some cases, they may be driven by the ribbon 10.
