Abstract
751,749. Electromagnets. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Nov. 6, 1953 [Jan. 31, 1953], No. 30791/53. Class 35. [Also in Group XXXVII] A magnet system of e.g. a bell, comprises a pair of armatures 3, 4 connected together by non-magnetic plates 27, 27<SP>1</SP> and centrally pivoted about a spindle 16 fixed to a base plate 17. The armatures have feet 31, 41 outturned (Fig. 2) or in-turned (Fig. 3) held separated by air-gaps 9, 10 from the respective poles of a permanent magnet 1 by a spring strip 19 fixed at one end to the plate 17 and adjustable at its free end by a screw 18. A bracket 20 fixed the magnet 1 to the plate 17. The operating coil 14 is mounted on ends of a pair of U-shaped pole pieces 11, 12 (Fig. 2) the free ends of which are received between the ends of the armatures 3, 4 to form four airgaps 5 ... 8. Hence on application of A.C. to the coil 14 the armature assembly vibrates. In a modification Fig. 5, (not shown), the armature 4 carries a bell clapper which passes beneath the coil.
