Abstract

750,949. Piston packing. BERGERON, A. Jan. 26,1954, No. 2327/54. Class 122(1) A piston packing comprises two rings 7, 8 each having overlapping ends 12, 13, and a metal spring 10 of concave section to press the rings 7, 8 together. Relative movement between the rings 7, 8 is restricted by a ball 16 housed in opposite recesses 17, 18 one or both of which may be elongated. The tongues 13 at the free ends of the rings preferably lie inside the tongues at the connected ends. A flange 20, Fig. 5, on the spring 10 engages a recess 21 in the ring 7 to restrict its expansion, and radial slots 23 ending in holes 24 which seal against the ring 7 may be provided to increase flexibility.
