Abstract
1,045,419. Piston rings. MUSKEGON PISTON RING CO. June 22, 1965, No. 26382/65. Heading F2T. A piston ring 29 comprises two axiallyspaced flanges 11 divided into segments 22, 22a with the segments of one flange in angular alignment with those of the other flange, struts 13 bent to form a loop portion 23 extending radially outwards between the flanges to provide axially extending pillars 24 between the segments, each strut comprising a pair of straps 12 one of which is integral with one pair of aligned segments whilst the other is integral with an adjacent pair of aligned segments, and a pair of axially-spaced ties 14 which join the straps and define with them a central aperture 15, the ties 14 lying in the outer radial part of the loop 23. The outer radial ends of the segments 22, 22a are bent towards one another to form lips 35. The ring 5 made from strip metal blank 10 and the segments may be formed by rupturing the flanges along score marks 18. In a modification (Fig: 5, not shown), the straps 12 are parallel to each other.
