A gas humidifier comprises a blade wheel with at least one disc at right angles to the axis of rotation, of greater radius than the distance between the periphery of the blades and the axis ; a cage of rods or a comb is disposed round the blade wheel. Within a casing 1 having an axial inlet passage 9 is mounted a blade wheel 3 on a shaft 13, with end discs 4, 5, the sharp outside edges 12 of which project beyond the outer edges of the blades 6. Water is sprayed through nozzles 11 so as to be_ thrown from the discs on to the round rods 8 of an atomizing cage spaced from the wheel. Additional discs may be provided between discs 4, 5 and may extend into the interior of the wheel ; other sharp-edged rings may be set into the blades between the main discs.
