Abstract

1407444 Rotatable spinners for turbomachines GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 2 Oct 1972 [4 Oct 1971] 45337/72 Heading F1G The invention relates to a rotatable spinner such as that disposed at the inlet end of a compressor of a gas turbine engine, the spinner having an outer surface of arcuate form in planes containing the axis of rotation of the spinner and fins projecting radially therefrom, the object of the invention being to prevent or minimize the formation of ice on the spinner. The assembly shown comprises a compressor having a rotor 14 with blades 16 and a rotatable spinner 20 having spirally-formed fins 24 at its outer peripheral surface. The fins are so formed that liquid droplets carried by the air stream will tend to impinge on the fins instead of on the spinner surface in the area of the fins whereby the ice-shedding characteristics of the spinner are improved.
