Abstract
913,147. Axial flow compressors; gas turbine plant. NAPIER & SON Ltd., D. Feb. 23, 1961 [Feb. 29, 1960], No. 7049/60. Classes 110 (1) and 110 (3). An air compressor with an annular air intake has two circular rows of radially extending pivoted inlet guide blades one behind the other, adjustment means for each row of blades and actuating means coupled to the adjustment means of both rows to adjust the blades of the two rows simultaneously. An annular air intake of a compressor casing 1 (see Fig. 3) has two rows of inlet guide blades 12 and 13. The front row of blades 12 are of symmetrical aerofoil section rotatable through an angle of 90 degrees. The adjacent edges of the blades may contact one another or overlap so that the intake is blocked. The second row of blades 13 are of non-symmetrical aerofoil section. The blades in both rows are mounted by stub shafts 14a, 14b in bearings 15 in the inner and outer walls of the intake 16, 17. Secured to the ends of the stub shafts 14b are toothed quadrants 19 whihc engage toothed rings 21, 22. Posts 29 mounted on arms 27, 28 rotate the toothed rings. These arms together with arms 39, 30 form two cranks supported on stub shafts 25, 26. The lengths 27, 28 are such that for equal rotations of shafts 25, 26 the blades 12 will rotate through 90 degrees while blades 13 rotate through about 40 degrees. The arms 29, 30 are operated through a lever 31 and bifurcated operating rod 34 by a servomotor 35. The blades and stub shafts 14b in both rows are hollow so that hotga ses for de-icing may he passed through the blades and out of apertures 36.
