Abstract
749,406. Pipe couplings. MOTTRAM, W. Nov. 15, 1954 [Dec. 31, 1953], No. 36254/53. Class 99(1). A coupling for a flexible pipe, e.g. for connecting a gas pipe 14 to a gas supply point 4, comprises a first connector member 1 having a valve 6 held closed by a spring 10 which is enclosed by a sleeve 11 upon which seats a second connector member 13 attached to the pipe 14 and provided with a quick pitch screw which engages pins 9 on the valve stem 8 to lift the valve when the member 13 is rotated to make the connection. A projection 7 on the valve 6 engages in slots 5 in the part 4 to prevent rotation of the valve when the member 13 is rotated, the valve spring 10 serving to hold the member 13 on to its seat 11 when the valve 6 is raised. A rubber seating ring may be provided in the cap 13 to engage the sleeve 11. The device may be used for connecting two flexible pipes together, the part 4 being attached to a flexible pipe in this case ; alternatively the member 14 may be attached to a gas consuming appliance for connection to a flexible tube fitted with the valved part 4. In a modification the pins 9 may be carried by the member 13 to engage a quick pitch screw formed on the valve stem 8 and the valve 6 may be a ball valve.
