[Also in Group XXXVIII] In a system for recording and reproducing signals for repeating and controlling the movement of a displaceable element such as a machine tool, the speed of a motor 77 comprises an amplidyne generator 104 and a suitable electronic amplifier 105 which compares the voltage of a tachometer 101 which is representative of the actual speed of the motor 77 with a reference voltage across the terminals 106, 107 which is representative of the desired speed of the motor, and causes the error to be amplified and the excitation of the amplidyne field windings 104a, 104b varied in such direction as to reduce the error between the desired speed and the actual speed to an acceptable low value.
