Abstract

[Also in Division G3] In a Ward-Leonard system generator G has a main field winding MF and a correction winding CF which is energized in accordance with the error between the desired and actual speeds of motor M the motor speed being detected by tachometer generator TG or by means of a bridge circuit including the motor armature. The voltage developed across resistor R4 is fed back to amplifier B which supplies booster winding BF to compensate for resistive losses in the armature circuit. The voltage proportional to motor speed is differentiated and the rate-ofchange voltage fed back to amplifier C or to a separate amplifier to counteract any tendency to hunting. The voltage representing the desired speed may be obtained from a resistor in series with winding MF and a regulator resistance. Alternatively the reference voltage may be derived partly from said resistor and partly from a potentiometer across the regulating resistance. The field windings CF or BF may be centre-tapped and supplied from pushpull amplifiers. In another arrangement, the motor is supplied from two or more generators with their armatures connected in series. One main generator may carry the main field winding, a smaller generator carrying the auxiliary field windings. Specification 847,647 is referred to.
