Abstract

1,089,800. Excitation arrangements for D.C. machines. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 2, 1964 [Sept. 10, 1963], No. 35717/63. Heading H2A. The excitation current in the field winding 10 of a D.C. machine 7 is controlled by an amplifier in accordance with the current flowing in a circuit which is connected in parallel with interpole winding 2 of the machine and includes an auxiliary winding 3 inductively coupled to winding 2. As shown the amplifier comprises an amplidyne 9 with a control winding 6, but a conventional amplifier could be used. The current in control winding 6 will have components proportional both the rate of change of current and the actual current in armature 7 and it is stated that this control system will give a constant current output when the machine operates as a generator. The reference and other control windings of the amplidyne are not shown.
