Abstract
869,613. Control of A.C. motors. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 2, 1959 [March 20, 1958], No. 8987/58. Class 38 (3). [Also in Group XXXVIII] The control and reference phase windings 3, 8 of a servomotor 1 are supplied from separate alternators 5, 10 having their field windings 6 11, supplied from an amplifier 7. The field winding 11 is connected to a full-wave rectifier 12 whereby the current in the field winding 6 reverses but that in the field winding 11 does not when the D.C. output of the amplifier reverses. The alternators are both driven by a single motor, the output windings 4, 9 being arranged to provide voltages which are phase-displaced by 90 degrees. The amplifier may have an input error signal representing the difference between the desired position or speed and the actual position or speed of the load driven by the servomotor, the motor being adjusted to remove such difference. As shown, the system is used for position control and stabilizing signals dependent on the motor speed and voltage are fed back to the amplifier. The motor may have a squirrel cage or solid iron rotor. Alternatively, the motor has a wound rotor, the impedance in the rotor circuit being controlled in conjunction with the excitation of the alternators.
