Abstract
1,041,718. Dynamo - electric machines. LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. July 4, 1963, No. 26573/63. Heading H2A. A cross-field machine has the commutator replaced by an arrangement of rectifiers connected to tappings on the distributed stator (armature) winding. Each tapping point is connected to two pairs of oppositely poled rectifiers to provide full-wave rectification for two independent circuits. The pair connected to the load conduct when the induced voltage is high; and those connected together (through a choke) to provide the cross-field excitation, are controlled to conduct when the induced voltage is near zero. The rotating pole structure of the machine is of cruciform shape and has control and armature reaction compensating windings on one arm only, the other arm being used to transmit the cross flux. The rectifiers may be silicon-controlled rectifiers and control signals are provided from an A.C. system synchronized with the machine rotation or alternatively, they may be derived from the stator winding through transformers.
