Abstract

1396579 De-excitation of brushless synchronous machines SIEMENS AG 18 Aug 1972 [23 Aug 1971] 38747/72 Heading H2A In an electrical installation comprising a brushless synchronous machine 1 including an exciter winding 3 arranged to be excited, via an uncontrolled rectifier 7 mounted for rotation, by a 3Ph. rotor winding 6 of an exciter machine 4 having an excitable stator winding 5, there is provided a de-exciter machine 8 comprising a polyphase stator winding 10 and at least one rotor winding 9 connected in series with the synchronous machine exciter winding 3 for injecting into the latter de-excitation current in the direction opposite to that in which the rectifier is arranged to feed excitation current thereto from the exciter machine rotor winding, the exciter and de-exciter machines 4, 8 both being either synchronous or asynchronous machines and there being connected across the or each de-exciter machine rotor winding 9 a diode 11 poled to provide a short circuit across such winding(s) during those half cycles of the de-exciter machine rotor current which are of a polarity opposing the de-exciter action of the rotor current half cycles of the opposite polarity. As shown, the two stator windings 5, 10 are supplied in parallel, via respective rectifier bridges 12, 17 and transformers 13, 18, from a choking coil 14 and a current transformer 15 with a current which is load-dependent upon the machine 1. The bridges may be short-circuited
