Abstract

1,192,861. Induction motors. LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGS - G.m.b.H. 26 Jan., 1968 [27 Jan., 1967], No. 4193/68. Heading H2A. In a change-speed induction motor, especially for washing machines, the speed range of rotor 4 is increased by the use of the sum and difference of two slightly different flux speeds. The flux speed of one member could be reduced by leaving some slots unwound. But preferably the flux speed of stator 1 is slightly reduced by removing some of the stator teeth at 24, see Fig. 2, and crowding the windings into the remaining slots so that the effective pole-pitch is reduced. The rotor 4 carries a normal primary winding, and the two field systems are linked by a freerunning squirrel-cage intermediate rotor 8. Thus the two flux speeds are 2700 R.P.M. and 3000 R.P.M. respectively, giving speeds of 5700 R.P.M. and 300 R.P.M., i.e. a ratio of 1: 19. The intermediate rotor preferably has two separate squirrel-cages 9, 10 and these support the rotor by means of end shields 11 and 12 which also act as fans. The brush-gear is fully encapsulated. The motor may be of shaded-pole or capacitor type and either or both primary winding may have 2:1 polechanging to extend the speed-range. Both primary windings may be energized together in series or parallel, and either may be D.C. excited through a rectifier (Fig. 4, not shown) to produce the effective speed of one or other primary flux. The capacitor may be used for resonant self-excitation of either member, the speed being controlled by resistors.
