Abstract

1,257,195. Winding layouts for dynamoelectric machines. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 23 July, 1969 [31 July, 1968], No. 36509/68. Heading H2A. A three-phase A.C. motor has a distributed armature winding divided into two three-phase sections A, B, C and a, b, c respectively, delta connected and star connected across the supply terminals. Each phase winding of each section may comprise a single series circuit, or a plurality of parallel circuits so long as the phase windings of a given section have the same number of parallel circuits. In a 60-degree phase band of a two-pole motor, Fig. 3, the first seven coils form part of a phase winding in the delta section and the last four coils form part of a phase winding in the star section. Winding layouts are given for a 2-pole, 4-pole and an 8-pole motor, the number of armature slots being given by 6N, where N is an integer exceeding eight. It is stated that such armature windings have a higher winding factor and produce an m.m.f. waveform with a lower harmonic content than conventional windings.
