[Also in Group XXXV] In a speed regulating system comprising a plurality of motors 10, 12 ... 18 wherein the speed of each motor is maintained at a predetermined value by regulators 40, 42, ... 48, which may be as described in Specification 654,208, [Group XXXV], fed with a reference voltage derived from a generator 100 and a speed proportional voltage derived from tacho-generators 66, 68 . . . 74, and acting on the field windings 30, 32 ... 38 of the motors, the relative speeds are manually controlled in such a manner that for an adjustment of the speed of certain of the motors, the speeds of certain others are correspondingly adjusted. The reference voltages from the generator 100 are developed across rheostats 104, 108, 112, 116 and 120, so connected that adjustment of rheostat 112 affects only the speed of motor 14, whereas adjustment of rheostat 108 affects the speeds of motors 12, 10 and further motors (if any) to the left of motor 10, adjustment of 104 affects motor 10 and further motors to the left of motor 10, adjustment of 116 affects motors 16, 18 and further motors (if any) to the right of motor 18, and adjustment of 120 affects motor 18 and further motors to the right of motor 18. Auxiliary rheostats 134, 136, 138 placed in parallel with 104, 108, 112 respectively by push buttons 144, 146, 148 and auxiliary rheostats 140, 142 placed in series with 116, 120 respectively by push buttons 150, 152, serve, when operated by the push buttons, for momentarily altering the speed of the motors they control when a speed alteration of longer duration is not desired.
