Abstract

The rotation of a shaft is measured by the corresponding linear displacement of a permanent magnet relative to the core of a transductor to produce corresponding changes in the output current. As shown, the rotation of a shaft 1 produces a corresponding displacement of a magnet 4 parallel to the core 5 of a transductor 6 having a D.C. feed back winding 13, a D.C. bias winding 22 and an A.C. input winding 7 feeding into a magnetic amplifier 10. The output of the amplifier is taken to the control winding of a servomotor 14 which displaces a further permanent magnet 17 parallel to the core of a similar transductor 20 whose output is also fed into the amplifier 10 in opposition, so that the motor 14 comes to rest when magnet 17 has been displaced to the same extent as magnet 14, and the rotation of the shaft of motor 14 is the same as the rotation of shaft 1. The ratio of the rotations may be made other than unity by adjustment of the degree of feedback in winding 13 as by the tappings shown.
