826,294. Automatic speed control systems. AIR REDUCTION CO. Inc. Aug. 22, 1957 [Sept. 5, 1956], No. 26535/57. Class 38 (4). The speed of a series motor with armature 10 and field winding 11 is controlled by comparing the voltage developed across resistance 24 by a motor-driven tachogenerator 16 with the pre-set voltage between supply point B and the slider of potentiometer 18 and feeding the error signal to the grid of valve 23, where it is amplified and passed to cathode follower 31. The changing current in control winding 35 of saturable reactor 36 alters the impedance of windings 37 and 38 which together with resistance 40 form a phase-shift network supplying a signal of changing phase from transformer 13 to the grid of gas-filled triode 12 through which the motor current passes, to control its striking time.
