Abstract
926,614. Winding wire; traverse mechanism. AVO Ltd., W. H. ATTWOOD, P. H. SEWELL, and S. R. WILKINS. June 22, 1959 [June 24, 1958], No. 20273/58. Class 120 (2). [Also in Group XXXV] Relates to a system in which the deviation of the feed-angle of a wire to a bobbin is used to restore automatically the angle to a predetermined value. The wire is taken over guides on reciprocable carriage 6 driven by electric motor 2, the bobbin 4 being rotated by electric motor 1. A coil 12 is pivotally mounted on the carriage by an arm 10 having pads between which the wire is trained, and is disposed in an air gap of magnet 14 which is energized with A.C. The output of coil 12 is taken to phase-sensitive amplifier 18 for exciting field windings 19, 20, of generators 21, 22, the generator 21 being driven by the motor I whilst the generator 22 is driven at a constant speed. A field winding 24 of generator 22 is adjustably excited by generator 21, and the armature of motor 2 is supplied by the constant-speed generator so that any signal due to a change in the feed-angle of the wire varies the speed of the carriage about the value set by the generator 21 and the adjustment of slider 29. Limit switches 30, 31, are set in conformity with a desired winding-length, and are adapted to operate a relay 32 having phase-change contacts 33 and motor-reversing contacts 34. In this manner, the conditions of constant feed-angle are held for a reverse direction of traverse. A potentiometer 35 imposes a variable potential on coil 12 to provide an adjustable null point in accordance with a desired feed-angle. The coil may be adjusted by a cam during a winding operation to produce close layer winding or spaced winding of predetermined spacing. The correction of the feed-angle may be effected by varying the speed of the bobbin or the speeds of both the bobbin and the carriage.
