746,802. Surface treating machines. LALONDE. F. P. April 28, 1954, No. 12371/54. Classes 60 and 138(1) A surface treating machine, for scrubbing, waxing, polishing or sanding surfaces such as floors, comprises a motor 5 having a depending vertical drive shaft 6, a countershaft 13 parallel to the drive shaft, a work disc 33 (e.g. a brush, waxer, sander, carborundum or the like) detachably connected to a member (e.g. a pulley 16) rotatable on a fixed trunnion 19, and belt drives 11, 15, between the drive shaft and countershaft and the countershaft and the member carrying the work disc. As shown pulleys 12, 14 on the countershaft 13 are connected by the belts 11, 15, respectively to a pulley 10 secured on the shaft 6 and to the pulley 16 rotatably mounted by bearings 23 on the trunnion 19, a top flange 20 on which is secured to a vertical wall 7 depending from the motor casing 8. The pulley 16 is retained on the trunnion by a detachable plate 24. The work disc 33 is secured to a flange member 32, inwardly-projecting lugs 31 on which are adapted to detachably engage T-shaped bayonet slots in a cap 28 fixed by screws 29 on the hub of the pulley 16.
