Abstract

696,560. Floor planing and polishing; powerdriven rotary brushes and pads. EBERSOLD, P. July 2, 1951, No. 15621/51. Classes 19, 60, 138 (i) and 145 (i). A machine for planing, polishing, or scrubbing floors comprises a carrier 8 supporting floortreating elements 9 at its outer part and driven by an eccentric 6a disposed inside the carrier and rotated direct by the rotor 2 of an etectric motor, the arrangement being such that all points on the outer part of the carrier move simultaneously in circular paths of radius equal to the eccentricity of the eccentric 6a. The latter is formed on the hub of a fan 6 driven by the rotor 2 for sucking shavings from the floor through holes 8a in the carrier 8 and into a bag 15 or a rigid container. A ball-race 7, 7a, 7b is provided between the eccentric 6a and the carrier 8 which may be of circular, polygonal, or elongated form and is spaced from the lower edge, of similar form, of a casing 1, Fig. 2. The floor-treating elements may consist of a plurality of tufts of steel wool soldered on discs 10 that are attached by screws to the carrier 8 adjacent a cylinder 14 of cardboard having notches 14a in the end. A disc of leather and cardboard having carborundum grains attached by an adhesive may be fixed to the lower surface of the elements 9. Alternatively, the floor-treating element may comprise a strip of steel coiled in a spiral around the cylinder 14. The strip may be serrated at its lower edge and formed with holes, which may be bushed, to provide passages for the air-entrained particles. As further alternatives, the floortreating element may comprise a waxed flannel cloth, a dry woollen cloth, or brushes for use with soapsuds or water. In the latter event, liquid and dirt residue is sucked into the bag 15. The machine is formed with a guide rod 13a and a handle 1b.
