Abstract

360,612. Cleaning blackboards &c. ADAMS, E., LARGIOLL, R., STRAWN, R. D., and EHRET, W. H., Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. Oct. 13, 1930, No. 30647. [Class 8 (i).] Blackboard erasers are cleaned by rotary brushes within a casing from which the dust is withdrawn by suction ; the casing may have a hose attachment fitted with a nozzle for cleaning the gutter, holding chalks, along the base of the board or a nozzle containing a rotary pad for cleaning the board. The casing 1 is divided into compartments respectively containing the brushes 14 on the one hand and an electric motor 8 and a pair of fan casings 30 on the other. The fan casings extend about openings in the partition between motor and brushes, and these openings may be closed by a slide 32. The motor drives the brushes through a clutch. The erasers 20 are held by resilient forks on the casing bottom and its cover, and the switch is closed by putting the cover in place. The fan casings are connected by a T-shaped conduit 39, the stem of which rises through the cover and is closed when erasers are being cleaned by a cap. The fans. deliver downwards into dust drawers 34. A shaft driven from the motor is mounted within the stem,. so that by removing the cap and attaching a hose,. Fig. 7, containing a flexible shaft 48 driving a pad. 54, the blackboard may be cleaned. The nozzle or cap 52 containing the pad may be replaced by a simple nozzle 51 used to clean the gutter along the base of the board. Fig. 9 shows a modified erasercleaner in which a vertical cylinder contains a brush rotated by a motor 66 to clean erasers 71 fed by gravity through a door 70, dust being drawn off by a fan 67 and delivered to a suitable point by a spout 69.
