Abstract

287,682. McIntyre, D. Feb. 7, 1927. Disc, wheel, and roller apparatus; tools.-An abrading or polishing device, particularly for rubbing down or polishing motor car bodies or for treating surfaces preparatory to painting, comprises a sponge rubber member 2 which is enclosed in a fabric cover 3 over which the detachable polishing cloth 4 is stretched, one end of the member 2 being located in a conical casing 1. Projecting eyelets 5 prevent rotation of the polisher within the casing. A bridge piece 7 secured to the back of the casing is formed with a boss 6 threaded to the spindle 8 which is carried in bearings 11 in a holder 9 provided with a handle 10. A thrust bearing is fitted at 14 and the spindle is coupled to a flexible shaft 13 driven by an electric motor or other means. The polishing cloth may be replaced by emery cloth or sand-paper and the cloth may be held in position by stitching or other fastening means.
