Inking mechanism.-In an enclosed inking mechanism for a rotary intaglio printing- machine, the doctor 2 is clamped between members 3 secured to the flat top of a beam 5 supported by arms 6 fixed to a shaft 7 journalled in the machine frame 18, the members 3 also carrying a plate 14 covering the front edge of a ledge 15 provided with a drainage edge 19 behind which is a bifurcated rail 20 and a closing rail 21 slidable in the bifurcations and pivoted to a carrier 23 surrounding the shaft 7 and supported by the top edge of the wall of the ink trough. A rail 30 is pivoted at 32 to a lug 22 on the carrier 23 and is held at its upper edge by a catch 31 which can be released for cleaning purposes. Openings are provided in projecting parts 29 of the lug 22 through which ink removed by the doctor can flow back to the ink trough. The beam 5 is adjustable about its axis relatively to the arms 6 by a worm-and-worm wheel device 4, Fig. 1 (not shown). The shaft 7, together with the arms 6, beam 5 and doctor 2, is reciprocated axially during the running of the machine, but the parts 15, 20, 21, 23, 30 extend the full width of the ink trough and are only capable of movement away from the cylinder 1 to inoperative position together with the parts 2, 5, 6. For this latter purpose, a lever 9 is attached to the hub 25 of the carrier 23 and has a stud 26 which engages positioning notches 27. The lever 9 and carrier 23 can be adjusted relatively to the shaft 7 by a worm 10 on the lever 9 engaging a toothed sector 11 on the hub 25, the sector carrying a bolt 12 slidable in a hole in a lever 13 fixed to the shaft 7. The bolt 12 slides in the hole during axial reciprocation of the shaft 7.
