[Class 100 (ii)] An offset-machine for printing on rough materials is constructed with a printing-surface 20, Fig. 4, shown as in a vertical position, and a flat coplanar offset surface 21 to which an offset impression from the surface 20 is transferred by means of a travelling offset roller 17 which is mounted in a reciprocating carriage 13 moving in guides 15. The roller 17 is mounted in spring-controlled supports, and is controlled by a. sliding cam 67 so as to be lowered on to the surfaces 20, 21 during upward movement and to be raised therefrom during downward movement of the carriage. The carriage 13 also carries spring-mounted inking-rollers 16 which are also cam-controlled so as to cooperate with the surface 20 and with an inking- roller 22, but to be raised out of contact with the offset surface 21. In the highest position of the carriage 13, the rollers 16 engage an inking drum 22 which receives ink from a duct roller 24 and messenger roller 25, and is fitted with distributing rollers 27, 28 which are given lateral vibrations. The material to be printed is fed to a platen 18 oscillated by crank mechanism and a pitman 38 connected to an eccentric pivot which permits adjustment of the printing pressure. The machine may be converted into an ordinary letterpress printing-machine, and may be operated by hand or power. The printing surface may be arranged horizontally.
