Abstract

610,445. Inking-apparatus. HOE & CO., Ltd., R., and BATTEY, A. P. April 5, 1946, No. 10586. [Class 100(ii)] Wiper mechanism for the printing cylinder 1 of a rotary intaglio machine comprises a cloth 6, Fig. 5. backed by a support 9 rocked about an axis parallel with the cylinder 1, and reciprocated parallel to that axis,whereby the cloth is advanced to present a fresh part to the printing- surface and is traversed over that surface. The support 9 has a rubber pad 13 covered with American cloth 14 and is carried by a bar 18 mounted in bushes 24, oscillated by an arm 26 linked to a bell-crank 28 rocked by a link 31 connected to a roller arm 32 actuated by a rotary cam 35, whereby the support 9 advances the cloth 6 against the movement of the cylinder 1 and moves back relatively to the cloth while a gap on the printing- surface is passing the support. The support 9 is mounted on the bar 18 by means of a post 16, a resilient mounting being provided by springs 19 bearing against nuts 20 and thrust rings 21. Reciprocation of the support across the cylinder 1 is effected by an eccentric 49 and rod 50. As shown, three cloths 6 are supplied from rolls 10 to rewind spools 11. The top and bottom spools 11 are fed intermittently by take-up rollers 43 rotated by ratchets operated from the bushes 24 by levers 39-45. The middle support may be stationary and the cloth fed intermittently during gap periods. Adjustment of the stroke of the support is provided for by holes 47 in arms 30, 32. The supports 18 may be reciprocated at different speeds.
