Abstract

Pure silicon tetrafluoride is obtained from the waste gases resulting from the acid treatment of phosphate rock by washing the gases with water and treating the resulting washings with sulphuric acid to produce the tetrafluoride. If necessary silicic acid may be added to the washings to ensure all fluorine content is produced as silicon tetrafluoride.
