Abstract

To remove fluorides dissolved therein, water is subjected to treatment with magnesium oxide or magnesium hydroxide, and ammonium chloride. The reagents may be added singly or together. The water may be boiled with the reagents and may be subsequently filtered. Materials containing magnesium oxide or hydroxide, or materials producing them under the conditions of the process may be used. The invention may be used in addition to conventional processes for purification of water.
