Abstract

A skin-cleaning composition, particularly for nicotine stains, comprises a dermatologically innoccous mercaptan in an alkaline medium in association with an abrasive. The composition itself or in association with water preferably has a pH of 9 to 13. The mercaptans specified are salts of thioglycollic acid, such as the sodium and calcium salts, thioglycerol and salts of thiolactic acid. The abrasive specified is pummice powder. Optional ingredients include a detergent, kaolin and glycerine. Calcium hydroxide is included in an example. The compositions are preferably solid or paste-like.
