Abstract

A composition for treating keratinous fibres comprises a hair-reducing agent, a polysiloxane and an ionizable ingredient which will give a solution of the composition a pH greater than 7. The hair-reducing agent may be thioglycollic acid or a salt of thioglycollic or other mercapto acid or a sulphite. The polysiloxane may be dimethyl polysiloxane and the ionizable ingredient may be ammonium hydroxide. In the example an aqueous emulsion of dimethyl polysiloxane is prepared with the aid of polyethylene glycol monostearate and to this is added an aqueous solution containing thioglycollic acid and ammonium hydroxide, perfume and colour.
