Abstract

A composition for cleaning dentures comprises (1) a solid organic compound containing a group -NCl2 and (2) sufficient alkali to establish a pH of at least 10 when the composition is dissolved in water. Specified compounds containing a group -NCl2 are N - dichloro - p - toluenesulphonamide, N - dichloro-p-sulphonamidobenzoic acid, N - dichloro - 3 - sulphonamidophthalic acid and N - dichloro - benzenesulphonamide. Th alkali may be caustic soda, lithium hydroxide, soda or sodium metasilicate. The composition may also include sodium chloride and (or) a sequestering agent, e.g. a meta-, pyro- or poly-phosphate, and may be prepared in powder or tablet form. A small proportion of sodium alginate may be included, to assist the production of tablets. Examples of suitable compositions are given.
