Abstract

A dry, sweetening composition free from bitter or metallic off-taste comprises at least two parts by weight of sodium or calcium cyclohexylsulphamate and one part of saccharin. A granulating agent such as acacia gum or carboxy-methylcellulose may be added to render the composition free-flowing. Alternatively, a carrier such as sodium benzoate may be used. The resultant composition may be made into tablets; effervescent substances may be added to assist disintegration. In an example, 125 mg. of sodium cyclohexylsulphamate, 12 mg. soluble saccharin, 18 mg. soda ash and 7 mg. sodium bicarbonate are added to a solution of 3 mg. acacia gum in 15 mg. water. After screening and drying 21.5 mg. tartaric acid, 3.9 mg. sodium citrate, 4 mg. sodium benzoate, 0.5 mg. insoluble saccharin and 1 mg. soda ash are added and the composition compressed into tablets. Whilst the preferred preparations are about 10 parts by weight of cyclohexylsulphamate to one part of saccharin, a formula for tablets containing 125 mg. sodium cyclohexylsulphamate to 6.8 mg. combined soluble and insoluble saccharin is given. Five parts of calcium cyclohexylsulphamate may replace eight parts of sodium cyclohexylsulphamate.
