Abstract

An antiseptic detergent composition comprises a soap or anionic synthetic detergent containing an antiseptic mixture having as the essential active ingredients a synergistic combination of (a) a halogenated bisphenol of the general formula <FORM:0792538/III/1> wherein X is a halogen, n is an integer of from 1 to 3, and R is an alkylene radical having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or sulphur, and (b) 3,4,41-trichlorocarbanilide. The term "soap" refers to water-soluble ammonium, metallic or organic base salts of various fatty acids and all products in which soap is a major constituent, for example, bar, flake, powdered, soft and liquid soaps, shaving creams, and cleaning creams. Synthetic detergents which may be used include the organic base, ammonium, sodium or potassium salts of the following types :-the alkyl aryl sulphonates, the alkyl sulphates, the sulphonated fatty acid amides and the sulphonated monoglycerides.
