Abstract

Ethanolamides of the alkyl ether and alkyl thioether carboxylic acids of the general formula <FORM:0804186/III/1> wherein R1 represents an aliphatic hydrocarbon chain of at least 8 carbon atoms, which may be interrupted by oxygen or sulphur atoms, R2 represents an alkylene radical having at most 3 carbon atoms, R3 represents hydrogen, a methyl radical or a hydroxyethyl radical, and X represents an oxygen or sulphur atom, are added, suitably in a proportion of 5 per cent, to floor-polishing waxes, soft soaps, soap powders and synthetic washing agents to give them fungistatic properties. Specified active ingredients are decylthioacetic acid diethanolamide, decycloxyacetic acid monoethanolamide, hexyloxybutyloxyacetic acid monoethanolamide, decyloxyethyloxyacetic acid monoethanolamide, decylthioethyloxyacetic acid monoethanolamide, decylthioacetic acid - N-methyl ethanolamide, decyloxyacetic acid - N-methyl ethanolamide, decyloxypropionic acid monoethanolamide, decylthio - propionic acid diethanolamide and hexyloxybutyloxy propionic acid-N-methyl monoethanolamide.ALSO:A pesticidal or bactericidal composition comprises as active ingredient a component corresponding to the formula <FORM:0804186/VI/1> wherein R1 represents an aliphatic hydrocarbon chain of at least 8 carbon atoms which may be interrupted by oxygen or sulphur atoms, R2 represents an alkylene radical having at most 3 C atoms, R3 represents hydrogen, a methyl radical or a hydroxyethyl radical, and X represents an oxygen or sulphur atom, and an inert solid carrier, a dispersing agent or a solvent comprising a major proportion of petroleum hydrocarbon. An adhesive may be incorporated. The composition may be used in the form of dusts, e.g. by incorporating talc, kaolin, bole, bentonite, chalk or ground limestone, sprays, e.g. by the addition of solvents or liquid distributing agents, e.g. aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbons or chlorinated hydrocarbons, if necessary with the addition of auxiliary solvents such as acetone or higher ketones, aerosoles and smoke, e.g. by the addition of dichloro-difluoromethane. The aqueous emulsions of the active ingredients may be used as bases for medicines, cosmetics or an ointment for controlling fungi which are pathogenic to skin and is produced by melting together 2 parts of stearic acid, 2.5 parts of a polyethylene oxide condensation product, 3 parts of wax, 3 parts of paraffin oil and 10 parts of decyloxyacetic acid diethanolamide and emulsifying the mixture in a solution of 7 parts of glycerin in 72.5 parts of water. Specified active ingredients are decylthioacetic acid diethanolamide, decyloxyacetic acid monoethanolamide, hexyloxybutyloxy - acetic acid monoethanolamide, decyloxyethyloxyacetic acid mono - ethanolamide, decylthioethyloxyacetic acid monoethanolamide, decylthioacetic acid-N-methyl ethanolamide, decyloxacetic acid-N-methyl ethanolamide, decyloxypropionic acid monoethanolamide, decylthio-propionic acid diethanolamide and hexyloxybutyloxy propionic acid-N-methyl monoethanolamide.
