Abstract
Cleansing compositions comprise a conventional synthetic washing agent and a homogeneous mixture of (a) the mono- or di-ether derivative of a di- or trialkanolamine, respectively, wherein the ether alkyl radical is C10-C20, or a carboxylic acid salt thereof, and (b) the condensation product of a C10-C18 alkylamine and 1-8 molecules alkylene, preferably ethylene or propylene, oxide, or a carboxylic acid salt thereof. Compound (a) and/or (b) if not a carboxylic acid salt may be quaternized with dialkyl sulphate. Specified carboxylic acid salts are those of citric, maleic, and nitrilotriacetic acids, and E.D.T.A. The condensate of oleyl alcohol and 8-20 molecules ethylene oxide may be added as solution promoter. Examples of (a) are O-monolauryldiethanolamine, O - dilauryltriethanolamine, O - dicetyl -and O-dioleyl-triethanolamine and the citric acid salt of the latter, and examples of (b) are the condensation products of (i) palmitylamine and 3 ethylene oxide molecules, (ii) oleylamine and 5 ethylene oxides, (iii) the quaternary salt obtained therefrom by reaction by dimethyl sulphate, and (iv) the maleic acid salt of palmitylamine and 5 ethylene oxides. The mixture (a)\s4(b) is added to known synthetic washing-agents such as isopropanolamine fatty alkyl sulphate, a or mixture of fatty alcohol and its ether sulphate in an amount 1-12% by weight of the known washing-agent, to give a soap or detergent composition which may be solid, pasty, or liquid, e.g. powder or flake, and may be used as a shampoo. Silicates, perborates and phosphates such as sodium tripolyphosphate, or tetrasodiumpyrophosphate and alkali salts of nitrilotriacetic acid or E.D.T.A. may also be included in the composition.ALSO:Cosmetic or toilet preparations having a mild cleansing action on the human skin comprise a conventional synthetic washing agent and a homogeneous mixture of (a) the mono- or di-ether derivative of a di- or tri-alkanolamine, respectively, wherein the ether alkyl radical is C10-C20, or a carboxylic acid salt thereof, and (b) the condensation product of a C10-C18 alkylamine and 1-8 molecules alkylene oxide, or a carboxylic acid salt thereof. Compound (a) and/or (b) if not a carboxylic acid salt may be quarternised with dialkyl sulphate.
