Abstract

A washing and cleaning composition comprises a detergent raw material containing sulphonate or sulphate groups and having at least 8 C atoms in the molecule, and at least one sulphate-betaine of the general formula <FORM:1065460/C4-C5/1> in which R1 is a saturated or unsaturated, straight or branch chain alkyl residue of 8-20 C atoms, and which may be interrupted by hetero - atoms or - groups such as -O-, -COO-, or -CONH-; R2 and R3 are C1- 4 alkyl residues and R4 is a C1- 4 alkylene residue. Suitable detergent raw materials are alkyl sulphates, ether sulphates and sulphonates, a -sulpho-fatty acid esters, alkaryl sulphonates and substituted taurines. Up to 20% by wt. of the sulphate-betaine compound(s) may be used. Other optional conventional additives may be present.
