Abstract

Cleansing compositions suitable for cleaning natural and synthetic fibrous materials, particularly carpets, comprise an aqueous detergent solution of which the active detergent substances comprise (a) 30-70% of one or more sulphosuccinic acid derivatives of formula <FORM:1099938/C4-C5/1> in which W is a -CH2O-, -CO.O.X.O-, -CO.NH.X.NH-, -CO.NH.X.O- or -CO.O.X.NH- group, X is an alkylene group, R is an alkyl group such that R.CH2O-is derived from a fatty alcohol and R.CO- is derived from a fatty acid, one of Y and Z is hydrogen and the other is the group -SO3M, and M is a salt-forming metal cation of groups I, II and III of the Periodic Table, and (b) 70-30% of one or more sulphate or sulphonate detergents different from (a). Components (b) mentioned include sodium cocoalkyl sulphate, sodium lauryl sulphate and sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate, and the compositions may contain a fatty acid alkylolamide. One of the Examples discloses an aerosol formulation.ALSO:Natural and synthetic fibrous materials, particularly carpets, are cleaned by applying thereto a dry-residue shampoo comprises an aqueous detergent solution of which the active detergent substances comprise (a) 30-70% of one or more sulphosuccinic acid derivatives of formula: <FORM:1099938/D1-D2/1> in which W is a -CH2O-, -CO.O.X.O-, -CO.NH.X.NH-, -CO.NH.X.O- or -CO.O.X.NH- group, X is an alkylene group, R is an alkyl group such that R.CH2O- is derived from a fatty alcohol and R.CO- is derived from a fatty acid, one of Y and Z is hydrogen and the other is the group -SO3M, and M is a salt-forming metal cation of groups I, II and III of the Periodic Table, and (b) 70-30% of one or more sulphate or sulphonate detergents different from (a). Components (b) mentioned include sodium cocoalkyl sulphate, sodium lauryl sulphate and sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate, and the compositions may contain a fatty acid alkylolamide. One of the Examples discloses an aerosol formulation. Fibrous materials specified are wool and silk, and woven or plaited fibres made therefrom.
