Abstract
744,963. Plate and tubular heat-exchange elements. BUREAU TECHNIQUE J. DENIS, SOC. P.R.L. Nov. 12, 1953 [Nov. 12, 1952], No. 31384/53. Class 64(3). In a heat-exchanger in which two heatexchanging fluid currents are separated by the wall of a heat-transmitting element 2 having secondary heat-exchange elements 3 projecting into the two fluids, a change in direction of one of the fluid currents is assisted by fins, baffles or guides 6 which are spaced and directed along the required line of flow of that fluid. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the element is a tube of elongated cross-section, and is enclosed by a casing 1. The baffles or guides 6 are formed on the outer wall of the tube or on the inner wall of the casing, to direct the flow of fluid outside the tube from the inlet 4 to the outlet 5. The secondary heatexchange surfaces 3 may be omitted from the inner surface of the tube wall in the zone opposite that where the baffles 6 are provided. In modifications, the heat-exchange element comprises two flanged plates. Each plate 10, Fig. 4, may have flanges 11, 11a, 11b, with apertures in the flanges 11, 11b for the flow of one of the fluids. The tube or plate may be made in interchangeable sections.
