Abstract

1,129,588. Tubular heat exchangers. SCHMIDT'SCHE HEISSDAMPF G.m.b.H. 23 Dec., 1965 [24 Dec., 1964], No. 54674/65. Heading F4S. A gas is cooled as it flows through parallel tubes 5 extending between headers 6, 7 within a casing 1, the tubes being supported in hollow plates 2, 3, each comprising a plurality of hollow tubular section members 4 joined together in pressure tight manner. The members 4 may be arranged in a stepped formation as shown or in a generally flat formation (Fig. 4), and may be annular and arranged concentrically as shown, or straight and arranged side by side (Fig. 4). The hollow members 4 are provided with perforations 10 allowing the cooling medium to enter the members, and also to allow any generated steam to pass from the members into the casing 1. The steam is withdrawn through riser tubes 11 provided in the upper end plate 3. The riser tubes 11 may pass through the wall of the gas outlet header (7A, Fig. 4). Alternatively and as shown, the heat exchange tubes 5 may extend beyond the plate 3 and be anchored at their ends to a plane end plate 13, and the riser tubes extend through the space between the plates 3 and 13 to a steam outlet manifold 12. Some inflowing coolant may be passed directly through pipes (9B, Fig. 4) into the outermost elements of the lower hollow plate.
