Abstract

A vertical heat exchanger, partic. for the evapn. of a sec. fluid by heat transferred from a prim. fluid, incorporates tubes through which the prim. fluid flows downwards and a shell with top and bottom and plates and three intermediate horizontal partitions. The partitions and the end plates define, from the bottom upwards, an inlet space and reheating, evapn. and distribution spaces for the sec. fluid. The tubes, except one, are surrounded by outer tubes in the reheating space. The outer tubes are connected at their upper ends into the reheating space, near the second partition. The other tube is surrounded by an outer tube which opens into the reheating space at its lower end and into the distribution space at its upper end. The third partition has holes around the first set of tubes, which allow the fluid to flow downwards along the outer wall of the tubes. The shell has a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet in the inlet space and the evapn. space respectively. The arrangement gives an improved thermo-dynamic efficiency, by the reheater being put at the lower part of the evaporator, i.e. in the zone near to the outlet of the prim. fluid, and the sec. fluid circulating countercurrently.
