Abstract
1346111 Tubular heat exchangers FOSTER WHEELER CORP 27 April 1971 [25 May 1970] 11685/71 Heading F4S A shell and tube heat exchanger 10 having a lower shell section 12 and an upper section 22 includes a removable core 35 supported on a flange 34 at the upper end of shell 12 by means of a clamping ring 36. The core comprises an annular assembly 66 of tubes extending between upper and lower annular tube sheets 38, 46. Flow baffles 68 guide a first heat exchange fluid, e.g. liquid sodium, entering at 18 along a tortuous path over the tubes before the first fluid finally leaves through an outlet 16 in the bottom of the shell 12. A plurality of inner and outer spaced tie rods 72 and 74 interconnect the flow baffles to provide a more rigid support structure for the tubes. A second heat exchange fluid, e.g. liquid sodium, supplied through inlet 26 enters the tubes by way of a central tube 44 and header chamber 52 and leaves through outlet 24. The top of the upper section 22 is closed off by a removable inverted hemispherical member 28. A removable funnel-shaped construction defined by members 58, 61 leads the second fluid into the central tube 44.
