Abstract
1340123 Tubular heat exchangers FOSTER WHEELER CORP 19 April 1971 [4 Feb 1970] 21574/71 Heading F4S In a tubular heat exchanger 10 comprising an outer cylindrical shell 12, a central cylindrical tube 22 is surrounded by an annular tube bundle 36 extending between curved tube sheets 24, 26. A first liquid, e.g. molten sodium, enters at 32, flows through the tubes and then leaves through outlet 16. The tube 22 functions as an inlet for a second liquid metal and terminates in a flow guide assembly 22a comprising a plurality of guides 42. The tube bundle 36, which includes an expansion loop in the region designated by double arrow A, is supported by an arrangement of annular baffles 44 which constrain the second liquid metal to follow a tortuous upward path over the tubes before leaving through an outlet 34. The circumferential spacing between adjacent tubes decreases with increasing radius in the tube bundle (see Fig. 2).
