Relates to heat-exchanger components comprising a plurality of plates spaced to provide passageways 10, 12 for the circulation of one fluid therethrough in heat-exchange relation with a second fluid, one fluid circulating through a passageway in which one plate 14 comprises also the wall of an underlying passageway, a pair of side walls 8 bounding the first passageway, a pair of end walls 6 at the ends of the underlying passageway, a pair of side walls 7 bounding the underlying passageway 10 and being apertured at diagonally opposite ends to provide inlet and outlet ports 28, 29 for the second fluid whilst the first fluid is permitted to flow from an inlet at one end of the first passageway to an outlet at the other end. According to the invention, extended surface is provided in the underlying passageway 10 serving to transfer heat and also to guide the fluid between the inlet 28 and the outlet 29. In the form shown, air flows through the passage 10 and is heated by hot gas flowing through the passage 12. The extended surface in the passage 10 comprises tab fins 24 which are disposed so that they serve also as guide means for the air (see Fig. 2, not shown). Additionally, partitions 32 may be provided as indicated. Pin fins 18 are provided in the passage 12, Fig. 3 and Fig. 4. A plurality of components may be arranged in a bank and two or more banks may be interconnected (see Figs. 7 and 8, not shown).
