Abstract
1412285 Plate heat exchangers CURTISSWRIGHT CORP 24 Oct 1972 [1 Nov 1971] 48965/72 Heading F4S Arcuate fins in a fluid passage formed between adjacent plates 60, 62 in a plate heat exchanger, are in rows each extending in the general direction of fluid flow through the passage. Each fin extends from one plate towards the opposite plate and is in abutment at two spaced points with neighbouring fins. As shown, the fin rows 72 alternate in the plate interspace with the fin rows 74. The free end of each fin abuts the root region 76 of one neighbouring fin and at the same time abuts at a mid-point B another neighbouring fin. The respective fluid flows in neighbouring fluid passages are parallel in the arrangement shown. Alternatively the fins in alternate passages may be disposed to provide for cross flow of the respective fluids. The apparatus is particularly intended for the heating of air by turbine exhaust gases, the heat exchanger then comprising an annular array of hollow plates Fig. 2.
