A roller tool-box for a capstan lathe comprising a body part, two steady rollers, and an adjustable tool, is characterized in that the movable parts are operable in a plane or in closely spaced parallel planes at right angles to the work axis and in that during adjustment the peripheral surfaces of the rollers and the point of the tool are self-centring relatively to the longitudinal axis of the body and also that after adjustment, the movable parts can be clamped in adjusted position. The roller-box comprises a hollow mandrel or body a, Fig. 1, for fitting to a capstan-head, having a flange b that supports, by means of three hollow pillars d, a plate c in spaced parallel relation to the flange b. The plate c has a spigot e on which rotates a further plate f having a handle h. The plate f has circular projections m, m<SP>1</SP>, m<SP>2</SP>, Fig. 2, which co-operate with cam-surfaces l, l<SP>1</SP>, l<SP>2</SP>, on levers k, k<SP>1</SP>, k<SP>2</SP>, pivoted about bolts i which pass through the pillars d and may be tightened by nuts t, Fig. 1. The levers may be maintained against the circular projections by springs (not shown). Two of the levers have ball-bearing steady-rollers n, Fig. 2, but the third has a slot o in which engages a pin p on a tool-block q. The tool-block is pivoted about one of the bolts i and is thus automatically selfcentred with the rollers when the handle h is adjusted. The initial setting-up is effected by a gauge-piece held in the lathe spindle. The tool s may be adjusted relatively to the rollers to throw their axes off the true centre of the box by making the circular projection m eccentric and adjustable by a slot o.
