Abstract

771,238. Mandrels. TALBOT TOOL CO., Ltd. Nov. 23, 1954 [Sept. 18, 1953], No. 25833/53. Class 83 (3). A mandrel comprises an internally-tapered split-sleeve 9, on which a workpiece is to be secured, mounted on an arbor 1 having a correspondingly tapered part 6, and screw-means for moving the sleeve along the arbor to vary its external diameter and so grip or release the work. The means consists of a nut 14 engaging a screwed part 7 of the arbor and having a recess 15 for the flanged-end 13 of the sleeve, which is retained therein by a ring 16 fixed to the nut by screws 17. The sleeve is prevented from rotating by a peg 8 or key engaging the slit 10. A number of sleeves may be provided for alternative use on the arbor to cater for a range of external diameters. The work is located endwise against ring 16.
