Abstract

921,602. Tool holders and rests. W. O. M. JONES. April 7, 1959 [May 26, 1958], No. 11685/59. Class 83 (3). A lathe &c. comprises a tool 22 which is adjusted and secured in its holder 12 before the holder is mounted on the lathe tool-post 10. A number of tool holders are located adjacent the relatively movable tool-carriage E and workpiece C, which may be machined by a tool directed axially or radially. A dovetailed rib 16 on the tool holder is clamped in a slot 14 in the tool post 10 by a jib 29, Fig. 3, operated by an eccentric 19 on a shaft 18 with a handle 20. Adjustment of the tool 22 in a slot in the holder is by a screw 28, engaging the end of the tool, and a wedge 42 operated by a screw 54. The wedge is clamped by screws 70, 72 and the tool by other screws, Fig. 2 (not shown), in the sidewall of the tool recess. In a modification, Fig. 9, adjustment of the wedge 42<SP>1</SP> is by screws 90, 92 engaging the more steeply inclined walls 93, 97 of notches 86, 88 in the wedge.
