A lathe comprises a headstock (2), Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown) with one or more rotating spindles (3) which are provided with chucks or means for attaching chucks on each side of the headstock, and at least one tool carrier provided in the vicinity of each chuck. Each spindle includes two separate coaxially mounted members (6<SP>1</SP>) and (611), Fig. 3 (not shown).
